Our Vicar

The Rev. Dave Walker

Holy Spirit Episcopal Church welcomed a new Vicar, the Rev. David Walker in December of 2020. He was installed as Vicar by The Right Reverend Gretchen M. Rehberg, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane in April, 2021.

After a lifetime of secular work in the banking industry, Dave decided to answer a long-lingering call to ordained ministry.  “I’ve sensed that I would eventually work for the church since I was a teenager.  It seems that life got in the way; starting a career, getting married, raising children, etc. I think it also had something to do with the old adage the teacher will arrive when the student is ready.”

Dave was previously a board member for Family Promise of Spokane, which works with families as they transition from homelessness to having a roof over their heads.   He loved seeing them celebrate their new-found freedom and sense of hope and purpose.  His past work dove-tails nicely into Holy Spirit’s partnership with Bonner Homeless Transitions (BHT) who serve a very similar purpose.

Dave’s daily practice involves engaging in prayer and scripture reading.  He leads a weekly bible study at the church, and looks forward to expanding faith formation opportunities at Holy Spirit.

Dave is a self-described “connector of people”.  Although he lives in Spokane, he is involved with the Sandpoint/Dover community.  He loves to actively engage with others.  “Working as the vicar of a church like Holy Spirit, and participating in such a loving and supportive community is the fulfillment of a dream,” says Dave.   “I couldn’t be happier.”
