Our Vicar
Rev. William Robert (Bob) Totten
Holy Spirit Episcopal Church welcomed a new Vicar, the Rev. Bob Totten in July of 2025.
Bob was born in Helena, Montana, and has been a lifelong “Northwest boy.” His young growing up years were in Spokane, followed by 40 years in Lewiston, Idaho. He has also lived Oregon and Washington before returning to Idaho in 2020.
Bob graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a Master’s in Business Administration. He worked as a health actuary for Regence BlueCross BlueShield from 1972-2005 before retiring. He began formation for holy orders in 2006 and received his M. Div. from CDSP in 2009 and subsequently ordained to thev priesthood. He served as Vicar of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Florence, Oregon from 2009-2012 and then served as Vicar of St. Peter’s in Pomeroy, Washington from 2014-2021 before retiring the second time and moving to Cottonwood, Idaho, where he volunteers at the monastery of St. Gertrude and at NICI. Bob’s ordination vows have, however, called him out to retirement to move to Holy Spirit, Sandpoint, where he will serve once again as Vicar. Bob has been married to Rev. Dcn. Kay Totten for nearly 41 years. They have two grown children and two grandchildren. Bob’s interests are reading, Sudoku, CrossFit, golf, walking, bicycling, snowshoeing and being enslaved by two ornery cats.
